Fantastical Interactical curated by Molly M. Weiss
"Reclaiming the Denied Self; The Shadow " Mixed media life size doll by Daria Deshuk
Molly told me she was curating an Interactive art exhibition, I offered her a work that “I never had the opportunity to Exhibit” A doll that was created to be interactive with the viewer, as a physical representation “the shadow side “ of human nature
In preparing the work for this exhibition I became aware of a shadow side I had toward making art. At Parsons School of Design in late 70”s I was told painting was dead. I created a reaction to this by not liking art that was not painting. I felt some how that I had to keep it alive, I was a “Figurative” painter and denied my self any other form for my art.
I realize now that this doll not only represents the denied sexual self, I was acknowledging. It physically represents a form of art making which was denied for so long through out my Art Career The creative spirit in me the child within that’s loves to make things all thing’s not just painting.
This exhibition has allowed me to bring a work of mine (that has been in the closet) out into the light! . Thank you Molly for including us it was a truly a fun evening for all!
